We offer two options for Covid-19 testing in our Stirling Uni Pharmacy, Buckie Pharmacy, Hamilton Pharmacy and Mackenzie Pharmacy (Edinburgh)
The PCR Antigen Test: this test is bought as a kit from the pharmacy for £135, you then take it away and do a nose and throat swab at home, then parcel the kit up for postage to a laboratory (you have to pay for the postage/courier service you choose). The lab then e-mail your result to you once they have processed your sample, if your result is negative this is a ‘Fit to Fly’ certificate. The PCR test is the ‘gold standard’ test, as laboratory tests are considered the most accurate. When you factor in postage time and lab testing time you usually get a result back within 48 hours, but this is not guaranteed and often depends on your exact flight date and time.
The Rapid Antigen Test: this is done in the pharmacy and involves the pharmacist taking a swab from the back of your nose, then the sample is tested on-site and you get the results within 30 minutes. If you need a ‘Fit to Fly’ certificate then this can be printed and provided there and then, provided your result is negative. The cost for this service is £60. Note: not all countries accept this test for fit to fly purposes, please check with your airline and the authorities in your country destination, a PCR lab test may be needed (see below). ++THIS TEST IS ONLY AVAILABLE AT STIRLING UNI++
